It is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world, it is also famous for its unique climate, with over 300 days of sunshine a year.

Ski areas in St. Moritz
There are three main skiing areas in St. Moritz, each completely different from the other:
- The nearest and largest is Corviglia, which can be accessed by elevators directly from the resort;
- The slightly smaller Corvatsch, a little further south, which can be reached from the nearby village of Surlei, which is served by buses;
- And the smaller Diavolezza area, which is the furthest south-east, close to the Bernina Pass and the Italian border, and can be reached by bus or train.
All of these areas have a large selection of very good mountain bars and restaurants.
1. Corviglia
Corviglia is the most extensive and the only one connected to the main part of the city. It also has base areas in Celerin and St. Mortiz-Bad, so it is the most popular and can be quite crowded.
The terrain here is great for intermediate skiers, with lots of open groomed runs. For advanced skiers, there aren’t many runs here, but if you’re venturesome enough to go down the piste, we found some good runs that don’t get groomed too quickly (we chose the Muntanella run right by the Chantarella train – the entrance to it is under the station).
With only 163km of pistes, it doesn’t feel like a huge area and we were able to easily get around the whole resort in one day. You can ski down to any of the base areas, from where you can then take a bus or walk to your accommodation.
There is also a very good snow park here, accessible from the top cable car station.
2. Corvatsch
Corvatsch is the second largest area accessible by cable car from Surleigh (bus service to St. Moritz Bad and Dorf). Two cable cars take you up to the Corvatsch Bergstation at an altitude of 3303m at the very top of Piz Corvatsch, with the topmost piste starting on the Corvatsch Glacier. Region’s best views from here are incredible on a beautiful day.
For the bravest and most advanced there is an excellent off-piste from the top station, descending the northwest slope. With good snow cover, strong skiers can also descend back to St. Moritz Bad.
3. Diavolezza
The more remote ski area of Diavolezza-Lagalb consists of two sectors, located on either side of the Bernina Valley and linked by a simple cable car across the valley floor. Both sectors offer some very good long red and black runs down the lines of their respective cable cars.
Diavolezza is the smallest of the three ski areas and the furthest from town (about 50 minutes by bus). But it has the most advanced skiing of all three zones thanks to the excellent pistes facing north under the cable car.
The biggest draw here is the terrific off-piste skiing, including a 10-kilometer descent down the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers to the train station in Morteratsch.
In total, there are over 350 kilometers of pistes in St. Moritz, offering a huge variety of conditions and challenges for winter sports enthusiasts of all levels. Most of the pistes are well maintained and equipped with modern elevators.
